Artist Statement
The focus of my studio practice is drawing and printmaking. I primarily use etching techniques, specifically aquatint. These become a continuation of my charcoal and coloured pencil drawings, visually intense due to their varied mark-making and chiaroscuro tonal values that mimic drawings from the Renaissance period.

The images I create are intricately detailed depictions of flora, all of which are medicinal and/or poisonous. This can be in modern medicine, history, folklore and mythology. They can be common garden flowers, such as Rhododendron and Morning Glory (Ipomoea). Or they are tropical climate botanicals, such as the Glory Lily (Gloriosa Superba). I am fascinated by the way something so dainty, so beautiful, can be so deadly.
